Respect and Etiquette

Instructors are to be addressed as Sir or Ma'am / Miss when on the mats

Academy Members are expected to bow on entering and leaving their Academy. They are also expected to bow before stepping on and off the mats and before training with other Academy Members.

Attendance

Frequent training is the key to progress. We recommend attendance at two classes per week to gain the greatest benefits for your own personal journey that Martial Arts Concepts has to offer.

Attendance Procedure

Please make sure you register for each class you attend by taking your card from the front desk and presenting it to the Instructor at the begining of the class.

Class Times

Please refer to the latest edition of the class schedule available at your academy. We highly recommend you attend at least two classes per week. We also recommend that you attend classes on consistent days and times each week. This helps to make training at the Academy part of your weekly schedule.

Uniform

Adults should wear an Academy T shirt or vest with Black tracksuit bottoms or shorts. The wearing of a Gi may be required for those members training in a Grappling Program. Shoes are not to be worn on the training mats unless this has been agreed with the Academy Principal, Chief Instructor or Program Director.

Junior students should wear an Academy Gi with a relevant belt of level. T shirts may be worn during the summer months by Instructor approval

Equipment

The Academy provides a selection of training equipment for Academy members to use during classes. All equipment should be returned to the storage area when the class has finished. We strongly recommend, you order your own training equipment through our ProShop. The equipment we sell meets our stringent safety requirements and is mandatory within the academy.

Gradings

Traditionally there is no belt system in Jeet Kune Do, as Bruce Lee said, his belt was for holding up his pants! However it is essential that some form of non class based assessment is adhered to for your personal development and as such gradings are compulsory at our Academy. Seniors are awarded levels in recognition of their achievements, whilst Juniors follow a more traditional belt system.

Coaches

These are specially trained Academy members available during all sessions to help you and answer your questions.

Extra Help

If, for any reason you fall behind or need extra help please see your Academy Program Manager or Instructor. Achieving goals at Martial Arts Concepts is one of the most vital elements in gaining confidence and reaching personal excellence.
Communication, teamwork and action are essential elements for our student support systems and are there to help get the most from your training.

Support for your Academy

We believe it is our duty to share our art and philosophy with the community. Please remember to recommend Martial Arts Concepts to your friends and family, as we have a scheme that rewards you for any new members you introduce to us. We like to call them People Like Us and we like to feel that our students are all part of one big PLU academy!
