Tiny Tigers

Are you 3yrs to 5yrs ? You\'re a Tiny Tiger.......Let\'s play!

What happens in class?

Sessions last for half an hour and are held at our Halesowen and Dudley Academy. Half and hour is plenty of time for little ones; any longer and they get overload! We practise good motor skills using lots of different games. Most of the games are martial art based in that they work on good balance, control, and coordination. The children at the academy are learning all the time but we engineer the classes so they are fun and they don’t realise they are practising new skills at the same time!
The tigers have a quiet time at the end of each class to discuss what they have done in the session and to chat about anything that concerns them in their day.
Little ones have worries too and they can come up with all sorts of things that they would like to chat about. From Billy won’t let me use the glue at school to I don’t like eating peas but mummy says I have to.
Why? The hardest lesson for any tiger to learn is that they have to wait their turn to have go at the games. This is tough for any little one to get to grips with so we have on hand some of our Black belt juniors to make sure that no one gets left or pushed out and that no fights break out in the ranks!! As the classes have a martial art theme we ensure that all the Tigers practise safely and with respect for each other this makes the transition into the full junior classes very easy

Who teaches the class?

Sarah Kelly and Lesley Jones are the main focus for the class, with other senior coaches giving a helping hand as necessary. All staff are CRB checked, first aid trained and come with a vast wealth of experience in the martial arts. Sarah herself has 20 years experience starting With Shotokan Karate, Tae Kwon Do through to jeet kune do. Sarah has been an instructor in JKD for 6 years but previous to that instructed dance for 7 years so has a different perspective to teaching children than many other coaches.

What do they wear?

Light comfortable clothing (joggers/shorts and a t shirt) and bare feet. Bring a drink with you or they can have glass of water at the academy if they like There is plenty of seating available so bring something to read and you can have a cup of coffee while you wait for them. We prefer parents to wait with tigers as they are after all little!
