Children in the Martial Arts

Martial Art Concepts is dedicated to bringing the wonderful benefits of the martial arts to children in a positive and fun manner. We incorporate the time-honoured skills and philosophy of traditional martial arts with the latest modern coaching methods and we believe this gives our junior students the best blend of traditional and modern methodology. With this in mind, all of our experienced instructors and coaches undergo extensive training in modern teaching and coaching methods, whether it is in philosophy, the way our bodies work and learn new skills or in the mental benefits of learning in a positively reinforced environment. Through our association with MATA (the Martial Arts Teachers Association) and NEST (the National Education System for Training) we have access to the most current learning tools and methods available today. Chartered Psychologist Dr. Ged Lombard, having reviewed Martial Art Concepts' Junior Program, has provided professional testimony to the positive benefits our Academy can offer your child and a separate report is available.
The true martial artist will endeavour to recognise and avoid conflict in all circumstances because martial art is not just about the physical skill of fighting. It is about perfecting your own physical skill, mental skill and your life skills too. We believe that training in the martial arts develops confidence, self-esteem, goal setting skills and a sense of achievement when working as a team or as an individual. Martial Arts will develop and improve all of the life skills our junior students need and foster a strong focus on discipline, courtesy, respect and personal endeavour.
We use several methods of reinforcing goal setting and achievement to keep the focus of winning small goals to achieve the final goal. At Martial Art Concepts we grade the children every three months for a new belt and we use merit badges to recognise the specific skills and to give every student small or different successes within the training environment. We also have a 'Student of the Week' award for a special student who has epitomised an aspect of the life skills that the martial arts teaches and also the Special Winning Attitude Team (S.W.A.T.), a permanent team of junior students who always strive to excel in all they do and are good role models for other students.
We offer birthday parties, special events and graduation events to recognise and reward achievements with all of a student's family, friends and fellow students and we also hold seminars to enhance and develop special skills.
